I’ve finally come up for air after a month of novel writing. I wasn’t able to finish by Nov. 30 but the writing continues. I’m in the last stretch of the novel. The characters are fully fleshed out. Clues and the red herrings are flying! The climax is in sight but still a few thousand words away.
NaNo was a steep learning curve for me. One of the lessons of this experience was this: There’s no substitute for persistence. Another one: An outline is a wonderful tool for envisioning the big ideas, but the devil – as always – is in the details.
I’m looking forward to returning to the short story format once the novel is complete.
